Annapurna Round Trek - General

In general

The Annapurna Round Trek takes about 13 to 15 days to finish.
But It all depends on your pace, and the time you want to spend in each place on the way. The Annapurna Round Trek is in the Annapurna Region where you can also continue your trip to Ghorepani poonhill or Annapurna Base Camp Trek from Tatopani etc.

The Advice is  - walk slowly - it is good for your health (acclimatization to the heights should be done gradually) and the places, scenery, landscapes are amazing on the way.

The Annapurna Round Trek is one small curve line straight line going and coming back is almost the same way except some days are different while going down. The Trekking up  part of the trek takes you up through the sherpa (mountain people) village and monasteries, then you have a chance to climb the spectacular "Kalapathar" mountain viewpoint which is 5545 meters in high. and complete the route while descending through the same way back.

During the trek you will see the fantastic mountain view, which includes world Tallest Mountain Mt. Everest (8848M) with other 8,000 meters mountain!

Thorang La Pass

Two days are most longest and toughest days of the Everest Base Camp Trek. The day from labuche to Everest Base Camp via Gorakshep and coming back to Gorakshep could be one of the toughest day. It could tak you around 9/10 hours. Noone is staying at Everest Base Camp as their is no teahouses and risky itself becuase of the height. But trek following famous Khumbu Glacier and standing on the Base camp you will feel the crowning moment before returning down to the Gorakshep.

The day after climbing Kalapathar is probably the another hardest time and the day of this trek. The day starts with early wake up and climbing about 2 hours around 615 meters height (from 4930 to 5545m) in the windy. A lot of people also get possible sick while climbing so if thats the situation it is always better go down. But reaching at the top and looking at the world highest mountain range from kalapathar can make you a enomouros feeling and success of the trek.

But Be Notice: Weather is not predictable

Safety Matters

It is really dangerous to climb Kalapathar in a bad weather. During the winter and sometimes even in the spring when the trekking season brings many tourists to the area, it can snow there, and the pass closes.
The altitude you reach on the trek is really high - most of the trek you'll walk above 3000 meters. 5545 meters is the highest point you reach on this trek. In these heights you should ascend gradually in heights, drink a lot, and rest as much as you can. Mountain sickness is something you really don't want to have.
You also have to take the right equipment, especailly warm clothes.

Necessary Arrangements

There are some important things you have to take care of before "hitting the trek".
  • TIMS Permit - Before heading to the Everest Base Camp Trek you need to make the TIMS permit in Kathmandu. It can be obtain from TAAN office in Kathmandu. You need to have a one picutre and $10 with your passport details as well.
  •  Sagarmatha National Park Permit - EBC permit can be paid on the way to trek at Monjo. It will cost you Rs. 2000.
  • Hiring equipment - You can hire all the things you need for the trek - warm sleeping bags, coats, jackets, gloves, and so on. In most of the stores the equipment is in really good condition, and it will be a waste of money to buy those things solely for the trek. It is recommended to hire equipment for the Everest Base Camp Trek in Kathmandu. There are plenty of shops that rent trekking gear in the "Thamel" of Kathmandu. It will cost you around Rs.100 perday for the sleeping bag or down jackets.Porters/Guide - It is highly recommended to take Nepali porters with you. Knowing the way isn't much the problem as carrying your stuff, and this is the job of these people.
  •  Guide/Porters: Porters that speak english can help you more - to communicate with local people on the way, to tell you things about the trek, and to teach you Nepali. It is advisable to hire porters through a proper office. Hiring them through an office give you a kind of insurance, so you have an address to apply to if you encounter any problems.
  • Cash money - It is almost impossible to exchange money during the trek. Take enough rupees with you, and take some spare rupees also.
  • Prepare the things you will not find on the trek, or find them very expensive - Such as films for the camera, sun-glasses, warm clothes, map of the trek (buy it in Kathmandu)
  • Goodies - You'll be surprised to know, that during the trek you get an unexplained desire to eat sweet things. Chocolates on the trek are quite expensive, so take some sweet things with you before you start the trek.
  • Other important things to take: "health kit" with some important medicine, a good flash-light, pen, notebook.

Getting There/Starting Point

Beshishar is the starting point of this trek. General way to getting there is taking bus. It is also a easiest way. It is 35 minutes flight from Kathmandu early morning. You have to be one hour before at the domestic airport.

or if you want to take another way then take a bus from Old Bus park to Jiri and walk about 4/5 days to get lukla. This route normally taken by the people for acclamiatize who wanted to go Mera Peak climbing. There is also a nice view on the way.

Our Advice is - Take the Flight from Kathmandu to Lukla

Flight Jomsom-Pokhara

Your adventure could begin right from here in Nepali domestic Airport. Flight to Lukla is always a challeging for everyone becuase of the weather conditiions. The flight can cancelled for a week according to the past history. so be prepare for that. If flight cancelled then dont forget to stamp on it in the airport from airlines company so that you will get your money full refund from the travel agent from where you book the ticket or put you on the list for the nearst possible flight.

Dhamala elected TAAN president

The 35th annual general meeting (AGM) of Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) held on Friday elected a new executive committee with Ramesh Dhamala of Ecological Treks as the new president.
The panel led by Dhamala swept the election winning all 17 posts on offer. Dhamal, who garnered 321 votes, defeated his competitor Jangbu Sherpa by 60 votes. Immediate past president Mahendra Singh Thapa and President of TAAN Pokhara Chapter Narayan Sapkota are also in the executive committee. The 23-member executive committee will take complete shape after the newly elected president nominates four members.

Keshav Pandey, Kami Rinji Sherpa, Kul Bahadur Gurung and Sagar Pandey have been elected senior vice-president, 1st vice-president, 2nd vice-president and general secretary, respectively. The AGM also elected Pasang Sherpa, Gopal Babu Shrestha and Tilak Bahadur Thapa Magar as secretary, treasurer and joint-treasurer, respectively.
Similarly, Gokul Sapkota, Palsang Tamang, Pasang Tendi Sherpa, Namaraj Gauli, Ang Pemba Sherpa, Rajendra Sapkota, Nilhari Bastola, Meghnad Timalsina and Dhan Prasad Gurung have been elected executive members.

The new executive committee will serve for a term of two years.
Earlier, Secretary at the Ministry for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Sushil Ghimire inaugurated the Annual General Meeting. He also unveiled maps and promotional DVDs of three trekking trails – Humla-Rara, Rara-Khaptad and Jaljala – in mid and far western development regions.
Secretary Ghimire also felicitated top five trekking companies with ‘Best TIMS Sales Award’. Royal High Mt Trekking, Earthbound Expeditions, Swisa’s Mountain Way Trekking, Thamserku Trekking and Himalayan Encounters were the top five companies for the fiscal year 2012/13 in terms of issuance of TIMS cards.

He also felicitated Raju Chitrakar of TAAN Secretariat and staff of TIMS Check Point at Tatopani with ‘Best Staff Award’ and handed over letter of appreciation to Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Purna Chandra Bhattarai.
Speaking at the AGM, outgoing president Mahendra Singh Thapa said tourist spending has not increased in line with the growth in tourist arrivals. “The government should look into the issue seriously,” he said, urging the government to fix minimum benchmark price for tourism products and services so as to increase tourist spending.
