Workshop on Carbon Management: Climate change and Tourism Industry of Nepal: A path to Green Economy

On Jan 13, 2011, a workshop was conducted with a support from the WWF Nepal, as the climate is an essential resource for tourism, and especially for nature and winter ‎sport tourism sectors. Changing climate and ‎weather patterns at tourist destinations and ‎tourism generating countries ‎can significantly affect the tourists’ comfort and their travel ‎decisions. ‎The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has highlighted its efforts to promote a low carbon, resource efficient Green Economy in the 21st century. According to UNEP, its strategy has focused on three priority areas: ecosystems-based adaptation; reduced emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries (REDD); and clean technology readiness. In this workshop, three papers were presented as follows.
  • Carbon Management: A path to Green Economy, Kushal Gurung, ENDS CARBON, UK
  • Nepal’s climate changes challenges and tourism sector, Ngamindra Dahal, NTNC, Nepal
  • WWF Nepal Gold Standard Biogas VER PROJECT: Lessons learned from the Field, Ugan Manandhar, WWF Nepal
